Tearing Down the Walls Between Families and Communities
Southeastern Evaluation Team

This month we would like to do something a little special and turn the spotlight on one SEE’s favorite events—Night to Shine, sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation.

This year, 537 churches around the world, staffed by more than 175,000 very excited volunteers helped treat thousands of people with special needs, ages 14 and up, to an unforgettable, prom night experience. This very special event is the highlight of the year for many.

Every guest of Night to Shine has their “turn” on the red carpet complete with a heartfelt and warm welcome from a cheering crown and the ever present flashing bulbs of paparazzi!

Once inside, the royal treatment continues, with hair and makeup stations, corsages and boutonnieres for all guests, karaoke (handled locally by SEE’s very own George Koury), dinner, and lots and lots of dancing. Of course, the highlight of the event comes when every single guest of Night to Shine is crowned king or queen of the prom. A truly moving moment for the guests and for everyone lucky enough to be associated with Night to Shine. The event, now in its fourth year, is the brainchild of former NFL quarterback and network sports analyst Tim Tebow through the Tim Tebow Foundation. Tim often gets in on the fun himself visiting several events in person and taking time to help shine shoes and meet attendees.

The foundation provides each prom with financial support, decorations and gifts for each participant along with step-by-step guidance to help make each prom a success. “Every time I think about it, I’m so humbled and amazed by the way God has continued to grow Night to Shine,” said Tebow. “I can’t wait for February… its’s my favorite night of the year.” While we can’t speak for everyone involved, those of the SEE team lucky enough to be a part of the event, held locally at Brookwood Church, say their memories will last them a lifetime.
